Painting over wallpaper rarely lasts. The paper can lift at the joins, and the pattern can show through the new paint. The paper has to come off first.
We strip the wallpaper, fill and sand the walls underneath, and prime them before painting. On this job the patterned paper came off before the walls were repainted and the stair balustrade was painted white.
Houses built before 1970 often have lead paint under newer coats. WorkSafe Queensland says it is most likely on windows, doors and skirtings inside older buildings. It is safe while sealed. It becomes a hazard when it is sanded or scraped without control, because the dust spreads through the house.
WorkSafe Queensland lists safer methods, including wet scraping, wet hand sanding and power sanders with HEPA dust extraction. Our team is trained in safe lead paint removal and follows these methods.
