Water weakens plaster, and wet plaster can grow mould. WorkSafe Queensland says to find and fix the water problem first. It also says plasterboard that has stayed wet too long, or has visible mould, should be removed rather than cleaned.
This two-level office had water-damaged ceilings throughout and new light fittings, so there was plenty of plastering to fix before painting. We patched the damaged sections, sanded them flat, then repainted the ceilings and walls.

Plaster does not hold well on wallpaper. The paper can let go of the wall, and the plaster can lift or crack with it. Our standard practice is to strip the wallpaper before any plastering.
If wallpaper has to stay in a spot, Dan talks you through the options before you agree to anything. On this job the patterned paper came off the stairwell and the walls were prepared and repainted.

Often, yes. We check the existing surface first. Loose or damaged sections may need to come out, and the rest may need a skim coat or a bonding agent before the new plaster goes on.
We do not recommend it. Plaster over wallpaper can lift or crack when the paper lets go. Our standard practice is to strip the wallpaper first. If it has to stay, Dan explains the options before work starts.
Yes. The leak needs to be fixed first. Then we remove the damaged plaster, patch and sand the ceiling and repaint it so the repair does not show.
Yes. We prime and paint repaired walls and ceilings in premium paint from Dulux, Taubmans or Wattyl. Colour advice is included in every quote.
